What Should I Do When Someone Dies?
At this difficult time there will be some decisions and arrangements to be made. We can help you through these decisions.
What do you do when your loved one dies?
- Call us as soon as you find it convenient to do so.
- If the death is at home, you will need to consult with your doctor. In cases of sudden, unexpected death or when the doctor is unable to ascertain the cause of death, the Coroner will need to be advised. The Police, acting as the Coroners agents, need to be contacted and will arrange for their contracting Funeral Director to transfer the deceased from place of death to the nearest coroners facility.
If a funeral director has already been engaged to convey the deceased to a public facility, the family will still need to organise the funeral and will be able to make their own choice of funeral director. The family is under no obligation to use the funeral director contracted by the police and coroners at the initial transfer.
