Funeral Preplanning and Prepayment
Why leave the burden of planning your funeral to your loved ones during their time of grief?
Funeral preplanning ensures your wishes are fulfilled and also alleviates the emotional stress on your family. They can focus on supporting each other and celebrating your life, rather than worrying about making difficult decisions. Funeral preplanning can also help avoid family disputes.
The easiest way to organise your funeral preplanning is to complete our online form with your funeral wishes.
This does not obligate you or your family to use our service; rather, it’s a helpful tool to help you make a note of all the important things to consider, and you’ll be emailed a copy of what you write. You can keep a printed record of your pre planned funeral wishes with your other important documents.
Funeral prepayment
As well as preplanning your funeral, you may also wish to consider funeral pre payment.
Funeral prepayment does not commit you or your family to using Resthaven Funerals: the funds for the prepaid funeral are held in trust in The Funeral Trust by the Funeral Directors Association of New Zealand.
How to make a funeral prepayment
Please contact us to make an appointment with us to discuss your funeral. We’ll record your wishes, and estimate the cost of the funeral so you can decide how much you'd like to prepay towards funeral costs.
The amount you prepay will then be applied to the entire funeral cost when the time comes. It’s important to note that the funeral price estimates are not fixed, and are subject to inflation.
You are still able to change any of the funeral arrangements at a later date.
What are the benefits of funeral prepayment?
- Helps protect your pension: Pre paid funerals up to $10,000 are currently excluded from asset testing when assessing your eligibility for subsidies for long-term residential care.
- Peace of mind: Your contribution towards your funeral costs will relieve your family of costs and financial burden in the future.
- No health checks needed: As The Funeral Trust is not an insurance policy, no health checks or personal questions are needed. All we’ll ask you about are your funeral choices, so your wishes are recorded.
*Please note: An estimate cost for the funeral you want can be given, however this figure is not price fixed and is subject to inflation.

We are members of the Funeral Directors Association of New Zealand. This means that you have peace of mind that we are upholding a strong standard of code and ethical principals consistent on a national level.
